Orbetello Night Run

Prologue. Yesterday the Black Knight Army - Sir Giorgio, his squire Massimo and the Black Knight - went to Orbetello, a nice town in Tuscany famous for its lagoon, to run the 6,3 km (3,9 ml) night run. This is a race with 3 laps into the historical center, full of tourists, through very very narrow streets on a difficult ground (big stones).

The Report. It was a surprise because we found a pack of fast runners. I decided not to push too much because I understood that it was impossible to enter in the first 3 of my age group. Finishing time 29'40" at the pace of 4'43"/km (7'35"/ml).; 152° of 196 overall and 15° of 17 in my age group!!!!!! Yes I am a humble member of the last pack!
After the race we had a drink to recover: beer for Sir Giorgio and his Squire and tea for the Black Knight.
Question: How do you spend your post race time?

  1. Looks like a very fun race and I think you ran an awesome time!

I have to say that I usually go home immediately after a race. One race I had two friends to cheer for me and after that one we went for a drink afterwards. In September I will be running with a team from work and then we will definitely have a drink afterwards.

  5. Tea as a recovery drink? C'mon, no beer? :-)
Running on cobblestones is no fun. I don't think I could do it.

  6. Where's the wine among the loot? I thought that was an Italian race staple!

  7. Congratulations! That is a speedy pace you kept for the whole race. I'm surprised you didn't finish higher in your age group.

Hmmm... I will have to try tea as a recovery drink after my next race. But I do like to drink a cold beer after running a tough race. :)

Post-race, I usually hang out at the race site for a while and chat with people I know. If my fiance is running the same race, then I wait for him to finish and take photos of him running. Then, I head home and shower and take it easy the rest of the day, unless I have other plans.

  8. I love that you get pasta as part of the race swag, so cool! If you ever race here in the states, you're going to be shocked how pathetic the goodie bags are - especially Boston Marathon.

Congratulations on a great race...I'd love a time like that right now :). Not sure how you don't twist an ankle and break it on those coblestones

  9. Red Stefano?? I thought you only wore black. Or is it the blood of your vanquished foes that had coloured your armour?

  12. What a neat run! There's a tiki run somewhere around here, it's run at night and the path is lit by tiki torches. Sounds pretty cool. Yes, you are speedy. I would be thrilled to run that fast.

Usually post-race I end up just going home, occasionally out for lunch/drinks with the friends I went with.

  13. Sounds like a fun race - it's always great to have friends and family in the mix, whether running by your side or cheer you along!

After a race, I don't do much. I usually make a nice lunch, open a good bottle of wine and relax watching a movie. That is the perfect post-race relax for me. I love the photo of little Umberto....Eco or III?

  16. I always enjoy night races. Well done on a good finishing time. You are far from the back of the pack, that's me you talk about. Some good loot again.
I am a bit disappointed with Springbok rugby at the moment. First the Springbok emblem that has moved to the sleeve for the world cup. I just don't like that. Second they have selected a "B" and possibly "C" team for the tri-nations. They are saving the "A" team for the world cup. Maybe that's a good move but I am not proud of Springbok rugby right now.

  18. 3 loops for a 6.3km run? Tight little loop. As always, you have great loot from the race. All my races are in the morning so I usually celebrate with family after, and eating of course.
