Injured

Injured. I am injured, I didn't listen to my body, I didn't want to stop my runs because I had the good sensation to run faster, to improve day after day. I thought that slowing down during the workouts and the last tough race was the right solution. This because my main goal is (was) the Roma-Ostia half marathon, the most participated in Italy, where I would have liked to establish the time to start the next half marathons in better corrals (last year my finishing time was 1:46:12 and this year my possible goal was 1:43:59). The day before yesterday I did the magnetic resonance imaging to understand why I have pain inside my left knee, however even if I had nothing (as my phisyo said), I must take 10 days off and take it easy for the following 3 weeks. Swimming will help but it is not the same.
Snow. After 27 years a heavy snowfall covered the city. All the inhabitants were unprepared but not the Black Knight Army. Last friday, the day of the snowfall, the Black Knight, Sir Giorgio and his humble servant Massimo, ran 10.5 km in the darkness through the frozen city where they didn't meet other runners. It happened in a magic atmosphere unknown in these places: different lights and shadows, the falling snow, the ice on the desert streets, the unreal silence (there were no cars): great and new experience! Here are 3 photos: the first is my absolute worst pic possible (taken after the workout - see the ice on the hat), the second in my backyard and the third inside my wife's car:

The Black Knight Army is always more powerful, other 4 brave warriors joined us: Lady Christi is another amazon, Teamarcia is the Lady of seafaring vessels, sir Kenley is Lord of Dillsurg and we are waiting for the Sir Joahnn's decision about his role.

  1. I'm sorry to hear you're injured Stefano. But I guess lesson learned for the next time and listen more carefully?

  2. Injuries suck! I am so sorry that you are injured. Get well real soon!

The snow pics are very nice. I am glad you got to experience such an awesome run in the snow!

Have a great day my Lord!

  3. Sorry to hear about the injury - always a frustration! Hope it heals up soon.

  4. 27 years and NO snow? I'm moving to Italy!! I like the snow, for about 3 days, then it can go away until the next year. But in Colorado, we get a lot more than that...and when I lived in Iowa (born and raised), we got even more. I bet it was fun to get the snow though since you don't get it often!

Ugh, sorry about the knee, that is no fun! I hope that the time off will help you fully heal and get back out there and defend those races!

  5. Isn't running in the snow the coolest thing ever? :) I love it! You do look pretty forboding in your picture.

What a bummer about your knee. I guess it's good the MRI didn't show anything, but it's frustrating too. Knowing what's wrong seems like it's easier to fix.

Hmmm...what role would I want in the army?

  7. Oh no! So sorry about your knee. Take care and speedy healing.
I am honored to be inducted into the BK Army...I'm in some formidable company!
Yes, that is a very menacing picture of you. I had no idea Rome got snow like that.
We are kindred spirits on the giving front. Animal shelters are among my very favorite charities.

  9. Black N, peccato questa Roma-ostia a 103.59 già te l'avevo assegnata. Vabbè, vieni lo stesso senza esagerare e concentrandoti sul Blogpoint

  10. That's some incredible snow! I couldn't imagine it not snowing for 27 years then one day there's snow.

Sorry about your injury. I hope this is a very temporary road block.

Thanks for checking on me through my blog. We've been extra busy with our rental house. I hope to post regularly now. :)

  11. That run sounded quite magical. It must have felt like the whole world was yours - and of course it is because you are the Black Knight.

Sorry to hear that you're injured. I hope your recovery is quick.

  12. I too would like to be part of the Black Army - Lady Charmaine and my role would be to keep fighting tummies full of chocolatey goodies.

  13. Are you going to do some deep-water running? It's very tedious, but it preserves a good deal of fitness. You can do it with or without a float belt - I have seen the undergraduates on the track team just 'run' up and down the lane in the slow lane of the swimming pool, without a belt; and you can also do intervals, so as to say do a total workout of about 40 minutes, warm up with 10 x 30 seconds hard, 30 recover and then do a main set of something like 8 x 2 mins sprint, 1 min recovery.

  14. I hope that the MRI does not show anything and you are fine. Although, it is always good to get it checked out if you are hurting when you run. The snow looks beautiful! We are not having any here and so I'm jealous that you have snow!

  15. But Sir, Tis merely a flesh wound. Seriously, I hope that your knee heals up and that you are able to still serve and protect his majesty. I need some armor so I can go out in the nice crisp cold snow and jog around ever so gracefully. Who do I talk to in his court to acquire such items? (hahaha) Thanks for the mention and glad your run in the city went well. Love the pics as well. You do look rather haggard. just kidding Sir. I must dismiss myself from the court it is pleases you. I have a run to do, and grass to protect.

  16. I hope the injury is minor and you will be able to run soon.

I love running during / after a heavy snow fall - The sound of all things around you changes. Very magical.

  17. send me some snow!
    I miss it!!!
I am so sorry you are injured
I am guessing you dont have the results of the MRI yet...hopefully this will heal fast and you can resume your normal running schedule

  19. The first snow in 27 years! Wow! And I am looking at grass! I actually have a little snow because I live a ilttle higher up in the mountains. Sorry about your injury!

  20. You need to start a running streak of daily running -- then your body wouldn't have time to get injured ;) Strange about the snow. We've had a cool summer -- if this trend continues me might get snow in town this winter.

  21. Sorry about the injury! That is always so frustrating! Take it easy and be patient. I wish I could run in snow! That is one of my dreams. We also see snow very rarely here in Johannesburg. I will make a decision about my role in the Black Knight Army soon. Have a great weekend Stefano!

  22. so sorry about the injury! I did the same thing to my left inside knee, it turned out I pulled the pes anerus muscle. How funny about the snow, this winter is so weird. We have no snow at all, and last winter we had over 120 inches!

  23. Sorry for the injury! Don't worry, if your recovery is quick you'll run the Rome-Ostia half marathon as training. You have time! In the meanwhile, Swimming will help you although it is not the same ... but it is better than nothing.

Great workout of the Black Knight Army on a running path covered with snow. I didn't run today because, as you know, I don't like running on my own. Maybe, I'll run next Sunday.

  25. sucks to be injured, Black Knight. I feel your pain. I have been injured since may, can't shake the pain

  26. Well, you are certainly brave to have gotten out to run during this crazy weather, but I am sorry to hear you are injured. Take care and hopefully the three weeks will go by quickly.

  27. I am very sorry for your injury! I hope that your knee heals up in the next 10 days. Your worst picture is not bad :) I think you just look tough! And angry with the snow.

  28. That sounds like a beautiful run in rare Italian snow. I love running in snow (as long it's not windy too).

I'm sorry you are injured. Maybe those of us in the Black Knight army with major and minor injuries should take some time in the infirmary. Do we have a Black Knight Army physician???

  29. Noooooo!!!! Being injured is the WORST. I hope you heal quickly. Also, running in a light snow is beautiful, as long as the path isn't too slick. It's some of my best training memories, is in the snow.

  30. :( So sad about your injury. You're right, swimming is not the same.

I love the snow! Here on the East Coast of the US, we haven't gotten as much snow this year as usual and I'm ready for some!

  31. I sure hope you recover soon....thanks for stopping by my blog!
