March

March 2012. Running 64.7 km (40.2 ml) in 7 short and slow workouts to test my damaged knee. Swimming 19200 meters in 9 workouts. In march I had 9 days of forced stop: 4 because I was on vacation in Cardiff and 5 for the flu. Later I understood that it was not a flu but an allergy (rhinitis) due to the chlorine in the pool; now I use a clip to close my nose.
March 1991. Another wonderful memory. In that year I ran my fastest half marathon: 1:31:58 but the pack was already very competitive. In fact I was 993 of 2542 overall.

Training. Since my last post I have run 4 times pain free (10.3 km - 7.1 km - 10.8 km - 12.1 km) and I have swum 3 times (2100 meters, 2200 meters, 2500 meters). I begin to think positive but with no illusions.
Viterbo. On thursday I went to Viterbo with my wife Daniela for a little of shopping, a walk through the ancient part of the city and to have lunch in a typical nice restaurant. It was a very nice day.

Have a very good Easter full of chocolate!!!!!

  1. I think your March mileage tops mine...definitely for running, if you include in all the hiking from the race I might have more. I really need to find some motivation.

Glad you figured out that chlorine allergy so it didn't keep affecting you. Some of our public pools here have switched from chlorine to salt water...apparently cheaper and more environmentally friendly? Anyway, I kind of miss the chlorine smell.

What a fast time on that half marathon. Wow!! That would be a very happy memory for me, too. Unbelievable how fast the rest of the field was.

  4. 10K pain-free is excellent. I am very sensitive to chlorine also - I haven't tried the nose clip, but I probably should...

    Happy Easter!

  6. Wow, allergic to the chlorine for a swimmer is not a good thing...but glad the nose plugs are helping. And pain-free running?!?! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The city you visited for touring, shopping and lunch looks amazing. I so need to rob a bank so I can come visit some day :).

    Happy Easter, my friend!

  9. I love the 1991 picture, I will have to dig some of mine out from that time, I was a different person then! As for the sinusitis, I feel for you; I used to swim similar distances and had problems there which started after I broke my nose....nose clip all the time for me now.

  10. condivido l'approccio, sapersi adattare al nuovo è l'unica via: a VT avrei dovuto viverci e invece.... ;)

  11. Those are some awesome pictures!! I hope that you can continue to run pain free.

I have sinus problems from the pool too. But I can't swim with a nose clip (I am not that smart I guess) and so I tend to have a very bad runny/stuffy nose for a few days after time in the pool. I do much better in my lake near my house.

    Happy Easter Stefano!!

  12. Happy Easter to you and your family, Stefano. Your accounts of Italy are vastly different from those we hear on National Public Radio here.

  13. It's so good that you're starting to run pain-free and they're really decent length runs too. It's encouraging that you'll be able to continue running - maybe not at the pace you were at before, but cautiously.

Happy Easter to you and your family.

  25. Things are going much better for you Stefano. I'm happy to read you had pain free runs.

Hope you had a great Eastern. I did but without the chocolate. This year I didn't buy any.

  27. Somehow I knew you would run pain free again. It is so good to hear this. You swam 19.2km! Awesome! That is a great PB for your half marathon. Mine is 01:41 and I did that in 1997.

  28. I hope you had a nice Easter weekend!

    You've got 28 comments since April, 8th ... I'm envious :)
I've just met our squire and he has said that he isn't running the Rome's Vivicittà 12 km race. He will probably run another race in Rome on the same Sunday. Could he have the permit? :)

  30. Continued good luck with your recovery. I will only be in Spain this trip, but I threw coins in the Fontana de Trevi, so I will be back to Rome someday.
