April

The Fall. Yesterday morning I went out for a workout, an easy run near the sea but, after 8 km, I tripped up on the broken sidewalk and I felt knocking the knee and the shoulder on the ground. The pain was heavy, I sat for some minutes on a bench and as possible I came back home walking slowly.  On the evening the physiotherapist put some bands on the injured parts and this morning I feel better but I don’t know when I will be able to run or swim again. I am sure that I don’t have the luck on my side.

April 2013 – Stats. Running 92.8 km (57.6 m) in 11 workouts; Swimming 19.9 km in 10 workouts. Running is very slow again but swimming is going well. This is the training log since my last post:

April 1991. I ran the Rome marathon in 3:34:09 (PB). I was 124 of 195 overall. Yes, only 195 runners! This year 10.665 runners have run the same marathon. The times have changed!

Run, swim, bike strong, my friends!

  1. Ow! Heal up fast! I hate pavement/sidewalk falls most of all. I'm still gun-shy after a bad fall on the sidewalk over a year ago.

Crazy the size difference in the marathon! Great job with your April training. Here's to an even better May!

  3. Sorry about your fall. I had the same bad luck in April and now I will miss the Comrades Marathon because of it. Take it easy and recover well. We will be back!

  6. Nice war wound. Looks like you've been into battle.

It's amazing to read that it wasn't so long ago when marathons weren't filled with thousands of people. You were a trend setter way back then.

  8. Oh man that is too bad. Broken sidewalks are the pits. I am so careful since stepping in that stupid pot hole. Good luck recovering.

  9. Ouch! That looks painful!

It's amazing how popular running races has become over the past 10 to 20 years.

  11. That looks seriously painful, Stefano! I did something similar to my knee last fall running at night on a golf course. I was feeling so joyful and then....splat! down I went.

Your luck will improve--we all go through bad patches (and sometimes they seem to take so long!).

You look very handsome in that picture from your PB race in Rome.

  12. Ouch! Sorry about the fall. I wish you speedy healing. Wow running has come a long way in a relatively short time. How cool you were running when before it became so popular.

  16. Sorry about your fall! Get better soon.

The Rome marathon has really grown! I can't imagine there only being 195 people in it. International travel races have become very popular.. And who wouldn't want to see Rome?

  18. That's a good "CJ" (Cathy Newman falling over on concrete!).

Yes, times have changed here in Australia too - many more 'slower' runners which is good.

  19. Oh no! I hope that by now you are doing better...I had that last year and it took a few days before the pain went away. Next event on may 19? That is my wedding anniversary!
