May 2017

May 2017: Running now is only for fun and to stay fit even if I like, sometimes, to enter some race to enjoy the competitive atmosphere. No more swimming because the pain inside my arm is chronic. But never mind, the show must go on. The mileage in may was the longest since the day of my surgery (janury 22, 2016): km. 144,9 (90 ml) in 14 workouts and 1 race (Race for the Cure in Rome).



May 2005: I found this picture in a magazine. What a nice surprise! While I was talking with a good friend of mine after the Race for the Cure, a photographer said “hi” to me. The day after we were  on a magazine! 

News in pictures:

On June 3rd, there was the final of the football Champions League. Real Madrid – Juventus = 4 -1. Even if I don’t like and I don’t follow football (soccer) I admit I was very happy: in Italy half people are Juventus supporters and the other half cannot stand that team (I am in the second half). Well, after the end of the game, 3 young Juventus supporters, angry for the score, took the flowerpot from my balcony and threw it into the ground.

After the long silence

NEWS: One year and half after the bad incident when I broke my right shoulder (see the x –ray) the situation is not good; I will always be partially disable because I cannot recover anymore the whole movement of my arm.
As you can see in the running photos below, the right arm has an innatural posture.
Swimming is almost impossible because is painful and I cannot do the normal rotating movement so, now, I can only run slowly. The routine is 3 times a week with a monthly mileage between 100 and 150 km (62 and 93 ml). However I made the decision to race when possible to enjoy my favourite sport and visit nice places around my city where I have good lunches in typical local restaurants: the running mate is always Giorgio.


RUNNING UPDATE: After my last post I entered 3 races. Now the pace is slow but I am happy because I can run again.

Tuscania 02.04.2017 "Tuscania trophy". Tuscania is a nice etruscan city inside the green country. The path was flat but we ran under a rainy storm. 9.8 km in 54:46 (5:35/km - 8:59/ml). 138° of 168.



Rome 21.05.2017 "Race for the Cure". Rome is a "nice little town" near my city (????). The path was challenging and the race was very crowded. I had the chance to start together the top runners because I arrived late and I crossed, jumping over, the barriers. After the race we had lunch at the jewish district. 5 km in 26:43 (5:20/km - 8:35/ml). 757° of 1293.





Civitavecchia 02.06.2017 "Liberty Sunset Race". Very very challenging path under a hot sun at 05.00 p.m. 9.3 km in 50:43 (5:27/km - 8:46 ml). 133° of 158 and 3° in my age group (but we were only 3.....)

February

February 2017. Stats: Running 108,5 km/67,4 ml (10 workouts and 1 race) - Swimming 2400 meters (4 workouts). Now I cannot swim anymore because the injury at my right arm is permanent. I go to the pool only for therapy, to move the shoulder as possible. Also running is not easy because of the posture and the pain but I don't give up. Rugby: rugby time now, the 6 Nations tournament is at half way and Italy keep on losing. Here 2 pics at the Olympic Stadium in Rome before Italy-Ireland.

Black is back

Ricordo running race. On feb. 12 I ran a 11.5 km (7.15 ml) race in Rome to remember the foibe massacres. The route was very challenging with only ups and downs, moreover, for a mistake of the organization, we ran 11.5 km instead of the programmed 10. The finishing time was 1:05:22 (5:40/km - 9:08/ml). I cannot run faster because my right arm is permanently injured after the incident occurred last year and the subsequent surgery (as you can see in the pictures). Now I run for fun and to stay fit but .... it's hard. At the moment the monthly mileage is only 100/120 km. As usual Sir Giorgio is my running mate.
